1975Robert Wirwicz works 50+ hours a week on the night shift at a shipyard in Quincy, as an outside machinist. He takes on a second job as a carpet installation helper during the day.
1978Robert spends his days learning the trade and eventually purchases a used station wagon to take on his own side work.
1985Robert hires his first helper; at this time Carpets Unlimited cliental consists of local interior designers, a few builders and a small residential customer base built up through word of mouth.
1988Robert’s son Derek starts working summers with his father as the company finds a niche working with landlords replacing carpet in their rental units as they are turned over.
1990Carpets Unlimited purchases the first van of their fleet and the company continues to grow steadily with local property owners, stocking 600 yards of carpet in a one bay garage.
1992Derek begins working full time for Carpets Unlimited and the company has two vans running two crews.
1994Carpets Unlimited now services approximately 1,000 units and is forced to move out of their one bay garage in Revere to a small shop in East Boston, Massachusetts.
1995Growing steadily, Carpets Unlimited relocates to a larger shop in East Boston right next door to the first one and stocks approximately 2,000 yards of carpet. Robert no longer installs carpet and does mostly estimating and the company's paperwork.
1997The company moves once again to a larger shop in East Boston where they will remain for the next eleven years. Robert’s son Jarrod starts working summers installing for the company.
2000Carpets Unlimited continues to grow, Jarrod begins working full time for the company. With the purchase of another van the company is now able to run three crews.
2008Carpets Unlimited purchases their first building located in Malden, Massachusetts. The building is 1,600 sqft. and has the ability to stock more carpet. The company now offers next day service to the property managers they service.
2010Carpets Unlimited continues to run three crews servicing approximately 4,000 units. Robert is diagnosed with Mesothelioma and is forced to retire because of the removal of his lung. Brothers Derek and Jarrod no longer install and take over Robert’s position in running the company. Derek and Jarrod redevelop the company business plan and marketing strategy. The company continues to offer exceptional service and workmanship at an unbeatable price.
2011Within one year the company grows from servicing 4,000 units to 10,000 units and now runs eight crews.
2012The company outgrows their Malden location and relocates to a 10,000 sqft. Danvers office. Carpets Unlimited doubles in sales once again from the year past.
2013After a long battle with Mesothelioma, Robert Wirwicz founder of Carpets Unlimited passes away on February 20th at the young age of sixty-seven.
2013Carpets Unlimited now services 30,000 units and runs 24 crews daily. The company stocks over 40,000 yards of carpet and pad along with pallets of VCT, LVT, plank, ceramic tile, hardwood and cove base for same day service. The company still operates on Robert’s philosophy of great service and quality workmanship.
